| America's
Hometown Workcamp
Muncie, Indiana
June 28 - July 4, 2009
|
Located
about 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis, Muncie is fondly referred
to as "America's Hometown" and is the hometown of
celebrities, Garfield and David Letterman. Munceetown was a
nickname given the in the late 1700's to one of several small
Indian villages, because it was dominated by a particular clan
of Delaware Indians, who were known as the "Muncee"
(Wolf) family.
With
a population of over 70,000 and some 30,000 families, Muncie
makes for a great TeenServe location. Like many mid-sized cities
in the rust belt, Muncie has had to economically reinvent itself
due to the collective fall of the manufacturing industry in
the latter part of the 20th century and consequently there are
many residents who could use your help next summer! |

| Heart
of America Workcamp
Oskaloosa/Eddyville, Iowa
July 12-18, 2009

|
June
2008 flooding caused Mahaska County to be the unfortunate recipient
of a Presidential Disaster Declaration. In the midst of recovering
from this flooding, the residents of Oskaloosa and its neighbor
Eddyville are very excited to have the "TeenServe Army"
descend upon their area in July of 2009!
Most
of the work that the TeenServe crews will do is located in Mahaska
County, named for Chief Mahaska, a 19th century leader of a
Native American tribe called the "Ioways" (there is
a bronze statue of Chief Mahaska in the historic, Oskaloosa
town square). Please come and be a part of God's work in Mahaska
County next July! |

| Appanoose
County Workcamp
Centerville, Iowa
July 26 - August 1, 2009
Located
in south-central Iowa, about 10 miles from the Missouri border,
and about 10 miles from the beautiful 11,000-acre Rathbun Lake,
Centerville is a small community with a population of 6000. Like
much of rural America and Iowa, the town has seen a dramatic change
in its economic situation over the past twenty years, culminating
with the closing of a thriving factory two years ago that displaced
500 workers.
To address one of its major goals, Grow Centerville, an organization
dedicated to helping the community, and TeenServe will work next
summer to mend one heart and home at a time. Please consider participating
with hundreds of other teens and adult leaders who will make a
difference in this community. |
